Due to delta cases increasing, from August 6 people over 12 are required to show their EU Digital Covid Certificate or a negative molecular or antigen test to access bars (except service at the counter) and restaurants when at the table indoor (max 6 people). The green pass is also mandatory to visit museums, exhibitions and cultural institutions, to attend congresses and fairs, to go to thermal baths, theme and amusement parks and to practice sport indoor, in swimming pools, gyms and wellness centers. As the green pass is required, theatres and cinemas will be able to welcome more people than before, still respecting the social distance and wearing facemasks. Night clubs are not reopening for the moment.
No green pass to travel on trains and public transports.
How do I get the Green Pass in Italy?
The EU Digital Covid Certificate can be downloaded online here in Italian, English, French and German. The certification shows that you have been vaccinated (one dose is sufficient for access), that you have had a negative test in the last 48 hours, or that you have recovered from COVID-19 in the last six months.
If you have been vaccinated in Italy, you are usually notified by email/SMS with an AUTHCODE that allows you to download the certificate onto your smartphone. The email usually arrives within 48 hours of the first dose of the vaccine. The final certificate is generally issued within 48 hours of the second dose.
For travelers coming from European Union, Schengen Area, and Israel it is necessary to present the Covid travel Green Pass (proving full vaccination – both doses -, test or recovery status in regards to COVID-19), whereas those traveling throughout Italy, don’t need it. A measure, dating from June 21, for people from UK and North Ireland requires that passengers undergo a 5-day-quarantine and a covid test. Concerning European Union, United States, Canada and Japan, where the percentage of people vaccinated is high, Italy has reopened its borders with no need to quarantine to those who comply with the requirements of the European Green Pass. In addition, Covid-tested flights from USA, Canada, Japan and United Arab Emirates are authorized to enter the Italian national territory, without having to comply with the obligations of health surveillance and quarantine, only with a negative covid test. Those who have stayed in or transited through Brazil, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka during the previous 14 days are banned from entering and transiting in the Italian national territory.
